Nothing in these terms removes consumer, privacy or other rights that applicable law says cannot be excluded.
Clear rules for care, privacy and a responsible marketplace.
This page explains how the FishSnap website works today, the protections that must apply before marketplace trading begins, and how personal information will be handled.
Research and planning are available. Marketplace trading is not yet active.
The standalone FishSnap website currently provides aquatic-life information, planning tools and a marketplace demonstration. Its basket, checkout, account, newsletter, contact and seller screens do not create an order, account, subscription, message or listing, and no payment is taken by this website.
Before trading opens: FishSnap must publish the verified legal operator, supported countries, seller status and identity checks, complete prices and delivery terms, payment and refund arrangements, privacy providers and retention periods, complaint routes, and any country-specific terms.
The principles that do not change.
Before purchase, buyers must be told who the seller is, whether the seller is a business or private individual, and which protections apply.
The total price, unavoidable fees, delivery restrictions and payment obligation must be clear before an order is placed.
Illegal, restricted, unlawfully sourced, misidentified or unfit live organisms must not be listed, sold or shipped.
Personal information must be limited to what is necessary, protected appropriately and never repurposed without a lawful basis.
Listings, reviews, ranking, moderation and complaints must be handled transparently, without fake reviews or hidden commercial influence.
Using the FishSnap website
Scope and acceptance
These website terms apply when you browse or use this standalone website. Transactional marketplace terms will apply only after FishSnap activates trading and publishes the completed operator and country information described below. If you do not agree with the website terms, do not use the site.
Age and authority
You may browse public information without an account. Before accounts or trading are activated, FishSnap will publish the minimum age for each supported service and country, any permitted parent or guardian route, and the authority required to act for a legal entity. A person who cannot enter the relevant agreement must not create an account or transact independently.
Care information is guidance
FishSnap profiles are educational planning aids. Aquatic animals and plants vary, conditions change, and some catalogue identities or care facts may be incomplete. Check the individual organism, current local law, trusted specialist guidance and the conditions in your own aquarium. FishSnap does not replace an aquatic veterinarian, qualified animal-health professional or emergency advice. Never delay urgent professional help because of information on this site.
Accuracy, corrections and reporting
We make every reasonable effort to research, cross-check and keep FishSnap content accurate. Even careful reference material can contain errors or become outdated: scientific names change, sources may disagree, and the needs of an individual animal, plant or aquarium can differ from a general profile. We therefore cannot promise that every item will always be complete, current or error-free.
If you believe something is inaccurate, please note the page or profile, the field concerned and why it may need correction, then report the possible error through FishSnap's Contact page. We will review supported corrections and update the content where appropriate. The current Contact form is visibly marked as a non-sending preview; a working reporting address is a publication requirement and must be connected before FishSnap begins accepting reports. Do not use FishSnap to report an urgent animal-health or welfare emergency.
Your responsibilities
- Use the site lawfully and do not interfere with its security, availability or other visitors.
- Do not submit malicious code, impersonate another person, scrape at a disruptive scale, reverse engineer protected systems, or use content to train or populate a competing database without written permission.
- Do not rely on a compatibility result as a guarantee. Aquarium suitability depends on the actual animals, tank, water, stocking, health and keeper practice.
Content ownership and permission
FishSnap’s original images, illustrations, written content, designs and software are proprietary to FishSnap. All rights reserved. Viewing the site does not grant a licence to copy, reproduce, adapt, publish, distribute, sell or reuse our materials.
Obtain prior written permission from FishSnap before using our materials on another website, social-media account, publication, advertisement, product or database, or to train a system. A permission request should identify the image or page, explain the intended use and specify where it will appear. Any permission applies only to the materials and uses agreed in writing.
Third-party materials remain subject to their owners’ rights. Scientific names and facts themselves are not claimed as exclusive property. Nothing in this notice limits uses permitted by applicable law.
Availability, links and changes
We may correct, withdraw or update content and features. We do not promise uninterrupted availability. Links to third-party services are provided for convenience; their operators are responsible for their own services and policies.
Responsibility and limits
FishSnap is not responsible for loss or harm resulting from treating general information, compatibility guidance, seller statements or a preview feature as a guarantee; failing to check the actual organism, aquarium, product, law or professional advice; or acting contrary to a clear warning on the site, where FishSnap has used reasonable care and skill and the loss was not caused by a breach of a legal duty that FishSnap owes you.
Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts responsibility for fraud or deliberate misconduct, death or personal injury caused by negligence, a failure to provide a service with legally required reasonable care and skill, statutory consumer rights, or anything else that applicable law does not allow FishSnap to exclude or restrict. Statutory consumer remedies remain unaffected.
Marketplace terms
Platform role and the sales contract
Unless a listing expressly states that FishSnap is the seller, the seller and buyer will form the sales contract with each other. FishSnap will provide the marketplace technology and may support payments, identity checks, moderation and disputes. This allocation will not remove any independent duty the law places on FishSnap as marketplace operator, intermediary or trader.
Seller identity and status
Before a listing is published, FishSnap may require the seller's legal name, trading name, address, telephone number, email address, identity evidence, business and tax registration, payout details, licences and lawful-source records. Information must be verified where required and kept current. Buyers must see the seller's identity and contact route, whether the seller is acting as a business or private individual, and whether consumer rights apply. FishSnap may suspend trading until checks are completed.
Seller standards
A seller must provide accurate, current and complete information about identity, taxonomy or trade form, quantity, visible condition, captive-bred or wild origin where relevant, price, taxes, unavoidable fees, stock, collection or delivery, dispatch weather limits, live-arrival process, cancellation and returns. Sellers remain responsible for licences, tax, consumer law, animal welfare, biosecurity, invasive-species controls, wildlife-trade documents and import or export requirements.
Listings we do not allow
- Illegal, prohibited, unlawfully imported, unlawfully sourced or improperly documented organisms.
- Species whose sale, keeping, movement, breeding or release is restricted at the buyer's, seller's, transit or destination location.
- Animals that are sick, injured, unfit for transport, materially misidentified or described in a misleading way.
- Fraudulent listings, counterfeit documents, undisclosed sponsored placement, fake reviews, manipulated ratings or off-platform arrangements intended to evade safety controls or fees.
Pricing, ranking and reviews
Listings must show the total payable price and clearly identify any cost that cannot reasonably be calculated in advance. FishSnap must disclose the main parameters used to rank listings and clearly mark paid or sponsored placement. Reviews may be published only under a documented authenticity and moderation process; incentives and material relationships must be disclosed.
Orders, payment and confirmation
Before the final order action, the buyer must see the seller, item, quantity, total price, delivery limits, material welfare information and applicable cancellation or return rights. The final control must make the payment obligation unambiguous. An order is accepted only in the manner stated at checkout and in the order confirmation. FishSnap will identify the payment provider, money-flow role, fees, payout timing and security responsibilities before activation.
Cancellations, live arrival, returns and refunds
Any right to cancel or withdraw, and any lawful exception for perishable or live organisms, depends on the transaction and destination law. A seller's live-arrival evidence window must be prominent, reasonable and compatible with mandatory rights. A seller policy cannot replace remedies that the law gives the buyer for misdescription, non-delivery, illegality or lack of conformity. FishSnap will publish the actual refund, return, chargeback and dispute process before trading begins.
Moderation, notices and appeals
Users must have an accessible way to report illegal goods, unsafe conduct, suspicious sellers, misleading content and welfare concerns. When required, FishSnap will explain listing or account restrictions and provide an internal appeal route and information about available independent redress. Urgent safety, welfare, fraud or legal risks may justify immediate restriction while a review takes place.
Tax and regulatory reporting
FishSnap and sellers must meet any applicable platform-reporting, seller-due-diligence and tax obligations, which may include EU DAC7 and the US INFORM Consumers Act where their legal thresholds and definitions are met. Data collected solely for a legal verification duty will not be reused incompatibly.
Suspension and closure
FishSnap may reject or remove listings and restrict or close accounts for legal, safety, welfare, fraud, repeated-quality or material terms breaches. Proportionate notice and reasons will be given unless law, security or urgent harm prevents it. Outstanding orders, refunds, investigations and legally required records may survive account closure.
Animal welfare, legality and responsible trade
Aquatic-life trading carries obligations beyond an ordinary goods marketplace. Every listing and route must be checked against the laws at origin, transit and destination. This may include CITES and national wildlife-trade rules, invasive-species restrictions, animal-selling licences, transport fitness, carrier rules, veterinary or health documents, import permits, quarantine and biosecurity controls.
- Sellers must use lawful, welfare-appropriate packing and dispatch only in conditions suitable for the species and journey.
- Buyers must check that keeping and receiving the organism is lawful and that suitable housing, water, quarantine and competent care are ready before purchase.
- Neither a FishSnap profile nor seller acceptance proves that a transaction is lawful in every location.
- Never release aquarium animals, plants, water or substrate into the wild.
How personal information is handled
Android app and account service
For the Android app and online account service, read the FishSnap app privacy policy. To remove a FishSnap account without reinstalling the app, use account removal. Aquarium records stored on a phone are managed separately in the app.
Current standalone website
The current website does not create user or seller accounts and does not send contact, newsletter, checkout or seller-form entries to FishSnap. Those controls are demonstrations only; do not enter sensitive or confidential information. The site stores saved-profile, tank-plan, basket and seller-workspace preview choices in your browser for the current session, and remembers the last homepage feature in local browser storage so the next visit can show a different species. Uploaded seller CSV files are checked in the browser; the raw file is not retained after the page session.
The hosting and network providers that deliver and protect the website may process technical request information such as IP address, date and time, requested page, browser or device information, approximate network location, and security events. The verified operator, hosting-provider list, processing locations and retention details must be published before this candidate replaces the current policy.
Information a future marketplace may need
| Purpose | Information | Expected lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Accounts and service delivery | Identity, contact, login, settings, orders, support and communications | Contract; steps requested before a contract |
| Seller onboarding and payouts | Identity evidence, business, licence, tax, bank or payment-provider details | Contract; legal obligation |
| Safety, fraud and moderation | Device, network, account activity, listings, reports and decision records | Legal obligation; legitimate interests in a safe service |
| Tax, accounting and legal claims | Transactions, invoices, verification and dispute records | Legal obligation; establishment or defence of claims |
| Optional marketing | Email address and consent record | Consent, withdrawable at any time |
The final notice will identify which fields are required, what happens if they are not supplied, and the exact lawful basis for every active purpose. FishSnap will not collect identity, tax or payment data merely because this future-purpose table mentions it.
Sources and sharing
Information may come from you, the other party to a transaction, service providers used for payments or verification, and lawful public or regulatory sources. Where necessary, it may be shared with the buyer or seller, hosting and security providers, payment and identity providers, delivery partners, professional advisers, insurers, regulators, tax authorities and law enforcement. Each active provider and its role must be recorded before launch. FishSnap does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising in the current website.
International transfers
Before personal information is transferred outside its home jurisdiction, FishSnap will identify the destination and use a legally recognised safeguard where required—for example an adequacy decision, approved contractual clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or UK Addendum, together with any necessary transfer assessment and supplementary protection. A copy or explanation of the applicable safeguard will be available on request, subject to lawful redactions.
Retention
Session storage is intended to last only for the active browser-tab session; the homepage preference remains until you clear site data or the site replaces it. Future server-held information will be kept only for the documented period needed for the stated purpose, applicable accounting, tax, marketplace, safety and legal obligations, disputes or legal claims. A category-by-category retention schedule must be approved and published before accounts or trading are activated.
Security and incidents
FishSnap will use proportionate organisational and technical safeguards, access controls, provider review, secure development, backups and incident procedures appropriate to the information and risk. No system can promise absolute security. A qualifying personal-data breach will be assessed and reported to regulators and affected people within the time required by applicable law.
Automated decisions and children
The current standalone website does not make solely automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. If future fraud, safety or moderation tools contribute to such a decision, the final notice will explain the logic and consequences and provide human review where required. The current demonstration forms do not transmit children's personal information to FishSnap. The intended audience, minimum age, any parent or guardian consent route, and child-specific safeguards must be approved before data-collecting accounts are enabled.
Your privacy choices and rights
Depending on your location and the reason for processing, you may have rights to be informed, access information, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to processing, receive portable data, withdraw consent, and challenge certain automated decisions. You may also complain to the privacy or data-protection authority where you live, work or believe an infringement occurred. Requests may require proportionate identity verification; they will normally be free unless the law permits a fee.
Cookies and similar technologies
The current standalone website code does not intentionally set cookies and contains no advertising or analytics tracker. It uses these first-party browser-storage items:
| Storage | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
fishsnap_saved | Saved aquatic-life profiles | Current tab session |
fishsnap_tank | Temporary aquarium plan | Current tab session |

fishsnap_home_hero_previous | Avoid repeating the same homepage species on consecutive visits | Until cleared or replaced |
You can remove these items through your browser's site-data controls. If FishSnap later introduces non-essential analytics, advertising, third-party embeds or similar storage, they will remain off until the required consent is obtained. Rejecting must be as easy as accepting, and consent must be easy to withdraw.
Local law and regional protections
These terms are intended to sit beneath—not replace—mandatory local law. FishSnap must approve a country addendum and operational checklist before allowing transactions in that country.
GDPR and ePrivacy transparency and consent; EU consumer information and remedies; Digital Services Act seller traceability, reporting, moderation and appeal duties; applicable tax and wildlife-trade rules.
UK GDPR and data-protection duties; fair-contract, pricing, review and marketplace rules; any animal-selling licence and welfare conditions that apply in the relevant nation.

Questions, complaints and legal notices
The current contact form is a visual demonstration and does not transmit a message. A working support route, privacy contact, legal-notice address, response process and—where required—regulator, alternative-dispute-resolution and online withdrawal routes must be published before accounts or transactions are enabled.
Changes to this page
Material changes will receive a new version and date. Where an active account or contract is affected, advance notice and renewed agreement will be obtained when required. A change will not retrospectively remove rights already earned under a transaction or applicable law.
